International students contribute to and benefit from the diverse population of DCAD and the surrounding areas, and are encouraged to apply. The college offers small classes in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere to maximize students artistic achievement and success. The rolling admission policy is also in effect for international student applicants. Non-U.S. citizens living abroad are encouraged to contact DCAD one year in advance of their projected start semester to complete admission procedures specific to international students, which consist of:
  • Application for Admission Form and a non-refundable $50.00 application fee. Students are encouraged to apply online.
  • Certified English translations of all academic records, as well as official copies of all original transcripts.
  • Portfolio review.
  • TOEFL Results: Official results of the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with minimum score of 500, or equivalent demonstration of English language proficiency. Specify DCAD's school code of 5443 for TOEFL score reporting. The TOEFL requirement may be waived for students successfully completing college level English composition at an accredited U.S. college or university, if a student's only language of instruction has been English for 3 or more years, or where a student has a minimum verbal score of 500 on the SAT.
An Affidavit of Support Form is sent to accepted international students. The form must be completed and returned to the admissions office along with a notarized bank statement showing available funds in U.S. dollars to cover tuition and living expenses for one year in the United States (approximately $20,000). International students must also submit proof of age and remit one semester's full-time tuition deposit and mandated fees, (check or money order payable to DCAD, in U.S. dollars and drawn on a United States bank), before the authorized 1-20 Form can be issued.

International students may secure apartments or rooms at a reasonable cost, close to the college. DCAD's Office of Student Services coordinates placements in college housing, if available, and refers students to other reasonably-priced housing options in the area. Students are responsible for contacting apartment owners or homeowners to arrange off-campus housing.
