BOBBY HANSSON TIN CAN WORKSHOP

Instructors: Bobby Hansson, DIAE Staff
THREE SESSIONS
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, June 13, 14 & 15
Tuition, materials list and fees available at DIAE.org; 19.5 credit
hours for Teachers
The Delaware College of Art and Design is pleased to partner
with the Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education in
presenting Bobby Hansson, author of The Fine Art of the Tin
Can, in a three-day workshop designed for high school and
college students, adult learners and Teachers, K-12.
Bobby Hansson has made artwork from found objects for
more than 40 years. His work has been exhibited at the
American Craft Museum, Renwick Museum (Smithsonian),
and Oakland Museums, plus many galleries and schools. He
has also taught art classes at Arrowmont, Brookfield, Eastern
North Carolina University and the 92nd Street Y. This threeday
workshop will offer the opportunity to develop multiple
ideas that can be realized in tin and other found objects and
at least one finished project (at least one day will be spent
with Mr. Hansson). The goals of the workshop are to promote
an understanding of the term Outsider Artist and the use
of found materials. The goal is to encourage confidence in
experimentation, understanding the potential of new materials
as a stimulus for creativity, mastering skills with a new material,
and promoting a playful attitude toward the creative process
with a new material. Note: Teachers will earn 19.5 credit hours
for the 3-day workshop.

Participants can bring any of the following: tin and aluminum
cans (especially ones with imagery – look for olive oil tins,
cookie tins, herb tins, etc.) Some free tins will be available, as
will some for purchase. You may bring thin sheet metal of any
kind, wire (steel or aluminum in multiple sizes) and any other
objects that intrigue or inspire.
To register, call (302) 992-1404 or visit DIAE.org. For more
information, contact Anne Oldach at (302) 388-1857. Space is
limited; registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
