A scholarship is considered "gift aid" and does not have to be paid back.

DCAD Merit-Based Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded based on an applicants’ academic and artistic skill at the time of acceptance to the college. The maximum DCAD Merit-Based Scholarship given is $8,000.
  
Merit-Based Scholarships are renewable for the second year for students who maintain full-time status and satisfactory academic standing (minimum GPA of 2.0). The deadline to be considered for a Merit-Based Scholarship is March 15 for the fall semester.

James P. Lecky Presidential and Stuart B. Young Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to accepted full-time students who demonstrate outstanding academic and artistic ability. The scholarships are automatically renewed for a second year of full-time enrollment as long as the student maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 or 3.0 (depending on the scholarship).

Students are encouraged to review the DCAD Financial Aid Office’s “Scholarship Reference Listing” worksheet below, as well as contact businesses, employers and civic organizations in their local area about the availability of private scholarships.
