Campus & Facilities
DCAD lives in the Center of downtown Wilmington in a historic Art Deco building that has been transformed into a state-of-the-art educational facility.
Technologically advanced computer imaging and graphics labs, darkrooms, and photography studios reflect the latest developments in these fields, while painting, drawing and design studios, bathed in natural light, merge the traditional with the modern.
The college is ideally situated in the heart of Market Street's cultural and educational district. Our neighbors include branches of the University of Delaware, Delaware State University, Springfield College, and Delaware Technical and Community College.
The campus is halfway between the elegant Residences at Rodney Square and the loft-style units of the Ship's Tavern District. A plethora of dining options are found within a few blocks, from the elegance of the famous Green Room at the Hotel Du Pont, to the chic urban style of Deep Blue.
The Grand Opera House is only two blocks away. Home to the Delaware Symphony Orchestra and Opera Delaware, it also hosts theater, ballet, opera, orchestra, and jazz performances throughout the year. The Delaware History Museum and the Christina Cultural Arts Center are nearby, as is the downtown branch of the Delaware Art Museum. The DuPont Theatre at the Hotel DuPont is Wilmington's venue for Broadway shows. The newly restored Theatre N is the city's popular art movie house.
Toni and Stuart B. Young Gallery
A large gallery with floor to ceiling windows on Sixth and Market Streets provides a dramatic first glimpse of DCAD for even the casual passerby. The Toni and Stuart B. Young Gallery is the transparent and accessible interface with the community. At the same time, it provides students with the opportunity to experience original works of art that supplement and enrich their studio curriculum. In addition to regular shows of student and faculty work, DCAD mounts curated exhibits featuring works of regional and national significance that draw large and diverse audiences from the surrounding community and region.
Tatiana Copeland Student Center
When it's time to relax, destress, and refocus, many students find themselves in the new Tatiana Copeland Student Center.
Airy and vibrant, this dynamic and exciting space on the first floor of the Saville Building is great for relaxing, studying, and building relationships with fellow students. Floor to ceilings windows allow light to fill the space and offer impressive views across 6th Street into the Toni and Stuart B. Young Gallery. Added features include wireless internet, pool and air hockey tables, and a snack bar. The most prominent feature of the Student Center is the DCAD bookstore. Not only does it stock the books and supplies needed for success, it also carries an array of DCAD-branded merchandise such as sweatshirts, coffee mugs, and baseball caps.
