Housing & Services
The Saville Residence Hall is located directly across the street from DCAD's studio and academic facilities at 600 North Market Street. Formerly Mullin's Department Store — a Wilmington landmark for generations — this historic structure was converted to residential use in the 1980s. Now part of DCAD's downtown urban campus,
The Saville offers DCAD students the convenience of a central location in spacious, luxury units offered at reasonable rates.
Each unit at The Saville is unique; some are two levels, while others offer majestic views up and down either historic Market Street of bustling King Street. Each student is provided with a bed, drawing table, and stool. Each unit is individually climate-cotrolled with air conditioning and heating. Amenities include full kitchens and washer/dryer. DCAD's Office of Student Services assists in matching compatible roommates and helps residents coordinate plans for other furnishings. While there is no formal designation, DCAD makes every effort possible to assign first-semester students to The Saville.
Most second-year students live within a three-block radius of DCAD. DCAD has built relationships with various downtown Wilmington corporations and property owners to provide housing to DCAD's growing student body.
A Resident Assistant lives on each floor of each building where DCAD students reside. Knowledgeable about the college and community, they serve as role models, enforce community policies, provide advice and guidance, and organize activities.
In addition, safety is a priority. Each secure building is equipped with a full sprinkler system. smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are provided in each unit.
