‘the ese’eja people of the amazon: connected by a thread’ is august gallery show
The Ese’Eja are one of the few extant foraging societies of Peru. The traveling exhibition “The Ese’Eja People of the Amazon: Connected by a Thread” consists of photographs and daguerreotypes made by Andrew Bale and University of Delaware photography faculty Jon Cox, as well as artifacts that are part of daily life that have been curated by Dr. Monica Dominguez Torres and Dr. Vicki Cassman. The show illustrates a worldview, a way of life, a heritage and the contemporary challenges facing these resilient people as Amazonia loses many of its indigenous cultures along with the deep knowledge and wisdom these cultures have of the interconnectedness of nature. “Connected by a Thread” opens with a reception on Art Loop Wilmington from 5 to 8 p.m. August 2. It will then be open to view from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays through August 15.
