Once you complete your online application, you will be directed to your applicant portal where you can check the status of your DCAD application anytime. Remember, application requirements may take up to two days to process and reflect on the applicant portal.
A portfolio of artwork is required for admission into DCAD’s Associate of Fine Arts Degree Program. All applicants are invited to visit the college in person for a portfolio review and tour of the school. Contact Admissions to schedule a review and tour at 302.622.8000 x.118.
Your portfolio of art and design work should demonstrate your abilities in the areas of drawing, composition, color and design.
Select your best artwork completed within the last two years (maximum 15 pieces).
Include 10 to 15 pieces of original artwork.
Drawing from life (observational drawing) is recommended.
The balance of your portfolio can include artwork in the media and style of your choice (pastel, pen/ink, watercolor, oil, acrylics, black and white or color photography).
Don’t forget to bring your sketchbook!
Applicants who cannot visit in person may submit their portfolio online.

One letter of recommendation is requested from an art teacher or academic teacher. For students who have been out of school for three years or more, a letter from someone who knows you in a professional manner is acceptable. Letters of recommendation must be sent directly to the DCAD Admissions Office or faxed to 302.622.8870.
All applicants must have received a high school diploma or the equivalent prior to entering DCAD. Official copies of all high school transcripts must be forwarded to the DCAD Admissions Office. The submission of SAT or ACT scores, though not required, is highly recommended. Applicants should ensure that all standardized test scores (SAT or ACT), if available, are included with their transcripts. DCAD’s CEEB code is 5161.
